Recipe: On the light side

After 10 days of pasta and pizza I was ready for a crisp, fresh salad.  A new favorite meal in our house is a mixed green salad with seared tuna.

I add green onions and rice noodles for a crunch
Drizzle the tuna steaks with olive oil and a dash of salt & pepper
I prefer my tuna steak pretty rare in the middle so I only sear it in a pan for 1-2 min per side.  Then top it off with a ginger dressing.

I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!!

What is your favorite light dish?

Loves: My new Miu Miu

During my trip to Italy I was in the market for a new handbag but was unsure on what designer.  With my partner in crime in tow, Kristen and I spent an afternoon wandering the streets of Florence browsing through Fendi, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Miu Miu.

After a couple hours of "trying on" handbags we both decided on Miu Miu's. I chose the Matelasse Bag in grey and I love it!
What is your favorite handbag for fall?

Back to reality!

Well, we returned home on Sunday evening from an amazing trip to Italy and I can't wait to share some of my experiences.  I am still trying to get back in to the swing of things and unfortunately I am a little under the weather.

I am already missing...

My morning Cafe Latte

 Amazing views

Champagne in the afternoon

 Fresh meats and cheeses

More to come this week...I need to get some rest!

Recipe: Simple Twist on Brownies [just add cookie dough!]

Sara has shared some yummy cocktail and appetizer recipes - she's a rockstar in the kitchen. I have more of a sweet-tooth than my sis, so when we have family dinners, I'm often in charge of dessert (my Peanut Butter Pie from Thanksgiving 2008 is famous... but that's another post).

Thought I'd share a recipe of my own... a classic with a simple spin: Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Brownies.
Our sister-in-law and another superstar cook shared it with me. Check out her blog for great recipes, beautiful photos, and inspiring stories from a mother of three.

Here's the recipe:

1 package, milk chocolate brownie mix
--2 eggs
--1/4 cup water
--1/2 cup vegetable oil

1 package, break-and-bake chocolate chip cookie dough

*Note: these can of course be made with brownies and cookie dough from scratch... this is the abbreviated version. :)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees, mix together brownie ingredients and pour into a 9x13 ban (greased).

Flatten the dollops of cookie dough and drop onto the brownie batter (press them down slightly).

Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the cookie dough is golden brown and a toothpick comes out of the brownies clean.

Took them to the office yesterday.... they were about gone by lunch time. Enjoy!

viaggi in italia

I'm Sara's sister Maureen. As we said farewell yesterday when she left for Italy, I realized a good segway into my guest post(s) would be to share my own experiences in the very place Sara is off to: Italy!

Each time we talked about her itinerary and planning, it brought me back to my semester abroad. I studied in Florence, and spent an amazing three months there - taking classes and spending weekends traveling. Some of the best places we visited were cities throughout Italy - many of which Sara is heading towards right now. Consider it a sneak peak at Sara's amazing pictures to come, but here are a few of my favorite snapshots from abroad:

Hiking Mount Ceceri and the hills of Fiesole (in the outskirts of Florence) was beautiful. Leonardo Da Vinci attempted to fly from the summit!

This picture isn't the most scenic, but I've always loved it. Wandering through the ruins of Pompeii was amazing. A powerful piece of history - with a private tour from an Italian grandfather named Mario.

The duomo (cathedral) in Milan is so dramatic... and surrounded by some of the fiercest shopping and fashion I've ever seen. This was the view from the ground...

...and from the top! We climbed a LOT of steps to get there (WITH shopping bags!), but the view was worth it!

Typical tourist pic! The leaning tower of Pisa was an easy day trip from Florence, and a fun photo-op. Tourist stands surround the tower, but we wandered into the city and found a wonderful restaurant for pasta (and wine of course).

This might be my favorite shot of the whole three months: My mom and me on the cliffs of Positano. Such an incredible view - and a great memory.

I'll be living vicariously through Sara for the next ten days - and can't wait to see some of the pics she comes home with. In the meantime, stay tuned for some more guest posts!

Have a good weekend!

Sweet & Salty

Well, it is Friday and I am looking forward to the weekend!

Bacon, Bacon, Bacon...

Everything is better with bacon even sweets!  I continue to see bacon being used in more unique and yummy ways.

I am starving now! I have not had a chance to try any of these treats but I will be stepping out of my comfort zone next time I see a sweet bacon creation on a menu.

What your plans for the weekend?

Wish List: Uggs

Fall is just around the corner and I am in the market for a new pair of Uggs. I have a couple pairs of the short style but would love a tall pair this season.

I love the Kid's Bailey Button Triplet. It is great having small feet...I can still fit in the kids sizes plus since I am petite the height of them is perfect!

What boot is on your wish list this year?

I am ready for all things Fall...

Happy Hour: Blueberry Lemonade w/ a kick

Well, it is the last official weekend of summer and there is no better way to celebrate than with a cocktail in hand. I plan to sip on a Spiked Blueberry Lemonade!

It is one of the easiest drinks to mix up...

Blueberry Vodka (I prefer Stoli)
Sliced lemons
Fresh blueberries

1. Fill tall glass with ice. Add vodka and lemonade. Stir well.

2. Garnish with fresh blueberries and lemon slices.

This is a once in a lifetime date and I couldn't help but to reminice about the days of 90210! After a 10 year run I was sad to see it go.

I am a little embarrassed to admit that I have watched the new season but I did catch a few episodes...meaning it is set to record on my DVR!

I love to see how the styles have changed between the 2 seasons! I wonder if we will look back 10 years from now at the fashion of the current crew and ask-did they really where that?

Kelly was my favorite character!  Who was yours?

All Charged Up!

Aren't these a beautiful way to charge your iPhone or iPod?

All of the docks are handcrafted from crystal glass in Europe.

There are 3 designs to choose from:

The Aurora Crystal Dock is a limited addition-only 999 pieces made-each of them will be a little different.

I am not sure $350 is in my budget to charge my iPhone but these crystal docks would be a stunning accessory to your desk.
